Our Story

Demons Behind Me (DBM) started as an inspirational clothing line that started in Jacksonville Beach, FL in 2009. The owners came up with the idea one Sunday afternoon talking about past tattoos. Co-Founder Chris has a tattoo of a demon tearing out of his calf muscle and Co-Founder Jim asked him what it was all about.  Chris simply said, “I put the tattoo on the back of my calf because I put my demons behind me.”  The light bulbs went off and the owners started printing shirts in very small batches.  The DBM message is a positive one, understanding that many people struggle with demons or obstacles of multiple sorts, but we can all work to put them behind us.

What took the owners by surprise was how so many different people emotionally attached to the Demons Behind Me mantra in so many different ways from addiction, PTSD, obesity, overcoming cancer and many other personal connections.  Chris and Jim always looked for ways that Demons Behind Me could support some of these causes financially and in 2016 Jim's sister Robin passed away from a heroin overdose at just 29 years old.  At this time Chris and Jim became serious about growing the DBM mantra and using it to help people like Jim's sister and many others.  Since Demons Behind Me has so many different meanings to different people they gave to many different charities that the customer would choose while checking out online.

Fast forward to April 2024 and the Demons Behind Me Foundation was created to further Chris and Jim's mission to helping others, but rather giving to many different foundations, this single foundation will be used to focus on three core segments including: Mental Health Awareness & Treatment; Cancer Research & Treatment; and Veteran Support.  It is extremely important for Chris and Jim that donor's funds and support are used specifically to help those in need, and through the single Demons Behind Me Foundation, they are able to do just that.  Our donors still have the ability to choose how they would like their funds directed with the DBM Foundation.
